Before the ancient seas, there was an abyss, endless, deep
No light no grief – even death held sleep
Nor mountains, hollows, chosen light for heartiness
Ginnungagab – pure in lifelessness

Slowly left from out her stiffness
Spread her weakened wings
And left the ground and hang like fog
From out chaos life to bring

And the fog compounded to drops
And the drops to well
Hwergelmir has fed the stream
That to north and south would dwell

Northerly, towards Nifelheim
Fog and freeze seized the land
Where the shadows aged, life-source froze
Eliwagar lost in thunderstorm

Southerly it was warm and bland
Surtur’s realm of fire
Scintillating all be gone
Water to steam, life to ashes
